SWISSMEM Machining Seminar 2024

The meeting place for machining specialists

In January 2024, the 15th machining seminar is set to take place on four different dates throughout Switzerland. The seminar series aims at decision-makers and specialists in the metalworking industry.

URMA will be on site with the "MX diamond" high-speed PCD shoulder and face shell mill.
We will be demonstrating how the modular milling head masters roughing and finishing in a single process step and thus can reduce machining time by up to 96%. Visit us at our stand and attend our presentation "Modular tool concepts – from fine boring to high-speed PCD face milling".

Aluminum milling – Reduce machining time by 96%

A Swiss manufacturer produces carrier plates made from a wrought aluminum alloy. This material tends to stick to the cutting edge of conventional tools, resulting in inferior surface finishes and premature tool wear. Due to the thin-walled nature of the workpiece, clamping it is also particularly challenging.

By using the PCD-tipped "MX diamond" shoulder and face shell mill, the machining time was reduced by 96 % – from 26 minutes to 1 minute!

Lecture

Modular tool concepts – from fine boring to high-speed PCD face milling
(Juri Wehrs, Director Engineering Tools)

Modular tool concepts are very important when it comes to solutions in precision machining that require maximum flexibility and safe resources at the same time. We take a holistic view of these tool concepts and develop highly innovative solutions with exchangeable heads. In addition to high flexibility and value for money, they also offer maximum process reliability. Join us on the exciting journey from fine bore machining to high-speed aluminum milling.

More about MX diamond

URMA also relies on an interchangeable head system for the "MX diamond", thereby offering a modular milling tool. The PCD shoulder and face shell mill, which is fitted with polycrystalline diamonds, is suitable for aluminum machining, bronze, copper, brass and alloys made of zinc, tin and other non-ferrous metals or polymers.
