URMA is expanding

In addition to the production and distribution of precision tools, URMA AG established a second pillar with the trade of machines exactly 20 years ago. As both divisions are growing successfully, URMA is building a second Swiss location with an Experience Centre in Mägenwil.

URMA AG is firmly anchored in the region: the family-run business has been located in Rupperswil with a production facility and offices for over 60 years. After the last expansion of the production facilities and the commercial building in 2015, space is becoming scarce again: "We are constantly investing in innovations, digitalisation and sustainability and will thus remain competitive in the long term. This is reflected in our continuous growth – both in the tool division and in the machine trade", explains Urs W. Berner, Chairman of the Board and CEO of URMA.

URMA is clearly committed to Switzerland as a location and to the regional roots of the family-owned company: "We are very pleased that we have found the ideal location for our second headquarters in the Mägenwil industrial estate," says Yannick Berner, member of the management and the Board of Directors. The Canton of Aargau's promotional activities helped the company to find suitable building land. The plot is very well located in terms of transport in the "Büntli" industrial and commercial zone in Mägenwil, and surrounded by well-known neighbours such as Brack AG, Denner and Zebra. Verena Rohrer, Head of Cantonal Location Promotion: "We support Aargau companies when they want to develop or grow. This includes helping them to find suitable plots or available real estate and acting as an interface between the business community and the authorities. We are very pleased to have been able to facilitate URMA's planned growth in Aargau."

The Canton of Aargau as a technology location
The 3,600 m2 plot is ideally suited for URMA's new Experience Centre, with office space and plenty of exhibition space for CNC machines, 3D printers, post-processing machines and all the other products in the machining division. In the modern showroom, customers can view the various machines and gain a deep insight into additive manufacturing (3D printing) through the entire production chain. The layout plan includes meeting rooms and an auditorium for training, technology transfer and events. The construction of the Experience Center will create the largest centre of excellence for industrial 3D printing in Switzerland. "This new building is very important for us, and shows how innovative the canton of Aargau is. Thanks to our cooperation with universities and research institutions, we offer a unique transfer centre for innovation and additive manufacturing," explains a proud Yannick Berner.

This second URMA location will be designed for 25-50 jobs, which will move from the Rupperswil headquarters to Mägenwil, and some of which will be newly created. As the growth is particularly noticeable in the shortage of space in the offices and showroom, URMA hopes that the entire project and construction phase will run smoothly. However, the main and production headquarters will also benefit from a quick implementation of the new building as it will provide the opportunity to reuse the former showroom space and further expand production in Rupperswil.
